Todham Rough Walk

On August 20, 2021 By onthehillsLeave a comment

Recently I was intrigued by a comment on a Twitter thread regarding an old railway bridge close to the Serpent Trail and the New Lipcus Way on Todham Rough. it’s kind of forlorn just standing in the trees alone with no real purpose any more.@a_rambling_man When I looked further at the railway bridge in question, …

A Lifetime Of Memories

On August 19, 2021 By onthehillsLeave a comment

Ask me what I did at work last week, or what I had for dinner last Monday, or any number of things related to the daily routine of my life, and I will, most probably, not remember. This not because of old age or the early onset of dementia! It is because these things were …

Northchapel Walk

On June 18, 2021 By onthehillsLeave a comment

Last year I did a YouTube video on a walk I undertook for the Ramblers as part of their #FeelMore campaign. This campaign was designed to encourage people to continue the walking following a rise in walking during the first lockdown. I was so taken with this route that I decided to walk it again …

A couple of weeks ago I became a Snowdonia National Park Gold Ambassador having enrolled for the Snowdonia National Park Ambassador Scheme. This is not a 'selected' Ambassadorship but a self-enrolment programme to help widen your knowledge of the National Park and help enrich the visitor experience. This scheme provides a unique training opportunity to …

Now that we will soon be able to travel a little further afield, we will be looking for new challenges and quests to occupy our outdoor days. On February 21, 2021 By onthehillsLeave a comment

Review: Lunabands – Bandana Headbands The one thing I hate is being told to act my age and not my shoe size! At my age I can, and will, do as I please and that includes what I wear! As many of you will already know, I have a passion for Bandanas, Buffs, Snoods, Headbands …

Walking Groups

On February 21, 2021February 21, 2021 By onthehillsLeave a comment

For many people one of the attractions of walking is the solitude, peace and quiet that comes from walking alone. I, for example, prefer to walk alone and it helps clear my mind of the detritus of daily life. It also allows me to walk at my pace and go where I want to go. …

OR Waterproof Liner Gloves

On February 15, 2021February 15, 2021 By onthehillsLeave a comment

Review: Outdoor Research – Waterproof Liner Gloves There are some days that I do not want to wear a standard or thick glove, as my hands quickly overheat and become uncomfortable. However, during autumn and early spring, I do like to wear a thinner liner glove as my fingers tend to get cold quickly (an …
