Lomo – Mountain Walking Gloves

On September 29, 2020 By onthehillsLeave a comment

Review: Lomo – Mountain Walking Gloves As I had gotten older, I am now in my mid 60's, I have found that my fingers get very cold when the temperature starts to move below 12C. This is apparently due to circulation issues! As a result, I tend to wear gloves from early autumn through to …

What does getting outside mean?

On September 27, 2020 By onthehills1 Comment

We have just had National GetOutside Day, usually a large-scale event in the Ordnance Survey GetOutside Champion calendar.  Unfortunately, this year was very much scaled back with regard to organised events but still as high profile as ever. However, in the build up to the event I started thinking about what Getting Outside means to …

Thorney Island

On August 16, 2020 By onthehills2 Comments

I wanted to try another Ramblers Walk and this one was close to where I live, and the location had been on the To-Do list for some time.  This is a circular walk of about 7 miles and, for me, has a historical significance.  The majority of Thorney Island is owned by the MOD and …

Obesity & Walking

On July 30, 2020 By onthehillsLeave a comment

Over the last few days there has been a lot of talk and media interest in the role of obesity in Covid-19.  The information published by Public Health England (PHE) would suggest that.... people with a BMI of 30-35, risk of death from COVID-19 increases by 40% and with a BMI over 40 by 90%, …

Ramblers #FeelMore Campaign

On July 25, 2020 By onthehillsLeave a comment

The past 4 months have been a very trying time for everyone and for many the only time they got out of their homes was for their Government sanctioned daily exercise - Hancock’s Half Hour! People who would not normally do 'exercise' would take this opportunity to leave the confines of the home.   The upshot …

Never too old for the hills!!!

The person behind Hill-Walking For The Over 60s is award winning blogger and Outdoor Personality of the Year Nominee Glyn Dodwell.

Glyn has been a Hill Walker since he was a teenager when he spent most weekends on Exmoor, Dartmoor and The Brecon Beacons with the Scouts. He has walked all over the UK, Europe & the Middle East.

The author is not a streamlined, super fit mountain goat, far from it – he carries a few more kg than he would wish and suffers from arthritis, chronic back pain.
